in the u.k we have had only two exemplary first lady's since 1937 so we watch the antics of first ladies elsewhere with a sort of shock and awe.no one in the u k was particularly aware of Carla brun ibefore she married sarkozy,she was one of a blur of mick jagger's girl friends but that was about it.when she arrived with sarkozy on a state visit she impressed every one as did his speech in Westminster hall she seemed cool and reserved and chic and made us wish our political wives werent so frumpy . wisely she seemed to keep out of politics unlike mrs brown who blew her image by letting her husband hide behind her skirts at last years labour party conference. so after this initial success she still seems to hanker after a show business career .it is rumoured she will perform for mandela and that woody alan wants her for a movie .ms bruni undid a lot of the good she engendered when she appeared on the jools holland show. her voice is in the jane birkin, vanessa paradis ,princess stephanie of Monaco mould .a style of singing that baffles the anglo saxons who expect ,brell ,edith piaf or even a Maurice chevalier type bravura . still cool still elegant never putting a foot wrong why does she persist with show business pretensions which place a question an uneccessary mark over her veracity- some people are never satisfied with what they've got which in her case is a pity
